The Benefit of a Single Sign On (SSO)

Traditionally, medical networks kept records on a host of different systems, meaning that you or your employees were responsible for learning a variety of different client side applications. Your IT managers also had to learn how to install and maintain a host of systems, which is certainly no easy task. Lastly, should you need to access any of them, you would have to login to each individually, which could become a huge time waster.

Keeping up multiple windows in order to accomplish a single task is an inefficient way to do business, considering the time it wastes and the cost of implementing each system. Still, such are the perils of a client and server based system.

Fortunately, technology has improved and there are some companies taking advantage of improved infrastructures to develop better web based systems that do not require a client side installation. This means that you won’t have to learn and maintain dozens of systems, but more importantly it removes the need to transfer information between different logins.

These days, Single Sign On’s (SSO’s) have replaced the need for multiple client based software systems. Using SSO’s, you can gain access to every system with a single login. This means you can transfer information between systems with ease. It is much more efficient as well, considering the time it will save your employees when they update or review medical records.

SSO’s are also easier to navigate because you only need to learn a single system rather than several of them. You’ll gain familiarity much more easily, which makes training that much easier. When every employee is proficient at a single system, there is no lack of expertise to help should an emergency arise.

SSO also makes an administrator’s job much easier. Rather than having to administer dozens of accounts for a single user, they can modify them all from a single interface. This eliminates thousands of tasks, which helps your IT managers get their jobs done faster, improving overall efficiency.

Setting up new users is also much easier. You simply add the user, create a password, and choose which systems you want to grant access to. A process that used to take an hour can be finished in ¼ of the time.

I’m sure you can imagine how all of these benefits can help improve the bottom line of your company. Less overhead, more employee efficiency, and fewer systems to maintain. This all adds up to increase efficiency and profit so that your company can focus on the patient rather than the systems required to treat them. If you are curious, find a provider that specializes in this type of installation and see how it can improve your business. This is just the beginning of what technology can bring to the medical industry. If you don’t get a jump on this technology now, you could be too far behind in the future to compete. There has never been a better time to implement modern technology than the current economic crisis. Efficiency is the rule of the day.
